Safely making changes
- Managing UNCs globally, any machine is migrated up to 5 times during a large scale rationalization
- Reconfiguring Protocols and Clients
- Switching NDS trees or Domains
- Implementing or Removing network clients
- Rolling out Service Packs
- Removing applications
All involve UNCs
- But finding all applicable workstations and users is tricky, so continual Auditing is absolutely key
- Making all changes takes approximately 100ms with Smart DeUNC… without user involvement
Specific workstation management tasks that will greatly assist in a server rationalisation project, from a workstation perspective, include the ability to remotely:
- Manage UNCs. The DeUNC task is aimed at quickly (typically 100ms) switching all UNCs containing references from a specific server and path to a new server and path across the local machine’s registry, desktop shortcuts and INI files globally. This allows all workstations that may refer to ServerX to be redirected to ServerY for all services, in the blink of an eye. This capability will allow Hillingdon to redirect workstations from the source to the SAN, thus following their data as it is migrated
- Move workstation configurations to switch between two NDS trees or two NDS contexts (within the same tree), taking into account the NAL deployment and printing aspects, again, without the need to even be attached to a Novell environment at the time
- Deliver and/or Execute applications
- Deploy and install small applications in EXE, MSI and Novell AXT format.
